At Akka Kappa, we specialize in helping expats discover their ideal homes in some of Accra’s most sought-after neighbourhoods. Here’s a brief guide to these prime areas and how we can assist you in your property search.

Prime Residential Areas in Accra

Accra boasts several upscale neighbourhoods known for their convenience, security, and vibrant community life. Here are some of the top areas where we can help you find your dream home:

1. Airport Residential Area

One of the best areas to live in Accra is the Airport Residential Area, which is located 5 minutes drive west of Kotoka International Airport. It is tidy, peaceful, and quite safe. Here live prominent Ghanaians, including former president John Kuffour, and a large expat community. There are numerous luxury hotels and serviced residences available. This area has malls, supermarkets, pre-schools and kindergartens, pharmacies, restaurants, embassies, ATMs, banks and airline offices. Airport Residential is within a 15-minute drive from the three most reputable international schools. This neighbourhood has a bright future because of the vicinity to the "Airport City Business District" a segment of high-rise structures. Properties in the Airport Residential neighbourhood tend to be expensive, with a large number of high-end apartment complexes and few townhome gated communities.

2. Cantonments

Cantonments is an elite neighbourhood with upscale shops, retail stores, a variety of restaurants, music and art venues, nightclubs, vibrant hangouts, and coffee shops. It is located in the centre of Ghana's capital city, Accra. Cantonments is a wealthy neighbourhood, gradually becoming the most sought after residential area with a variety of townhome gated communities, luxury apartment complexes and the most beautiful residences of diplomats and wealthy Ghanaians. It is also known as the Ghanaian capital of Accra's Royal Jewels. The area is just within a short drive away and is now considered part of Cantonments. Getting around is quick and straightforward. From Cantonments, Kotoka International Airport is around 3 km away, and Accra Central, the hub of all the important trading in the area, is about 15 km away. The vibrant Osu area, popular for the nightlife with all its shops and restaurants, is just a 5-minute drive. The Cantonments area is also home to a number of good educational institutions. The Ghana International School is one of the most renowned international schools with a British curriculum and a wide range of extra-curricular activities. For Pre-school and primary education in Cantonments, Explorers Schools and Safari Schools provide the best for your little ones. In this prime neighbourhood, The Bank Hospital and Euracare Ghana provide excellent medical services for you and the family.

3. Labone

Labone is to the south of Cantonments with no discernible border between them. It extends eastward to Labadi. Lebanese and Indian Ghanaians and other expat communities reside here with their families. In Labone,  abundantly equipped with reputable schools and hospitals, ensuring residents have access to top-notch education and healthcare. Top medical facilities like WARA (West African Rescue Association) provide top-notch medical service. Adding to its appeal are the numerous malls, cafes, and restaurants that offer a variety of shopping and dining experiences, perfect for casual outings or special occasions. Lounges scattered throughout provide ideal spots for relaxation and social gatherings. Labone is also known for its well-maintained road network, which enhances mobility and accessibility, making it a highly sought-after location for those seeking a blend of comfort and sophistication in the heart of Accra.

4. East Legon

East Legon is an upcoming affluent residential area, developing at a very fast pace. One of the few residential neighbourhoods in Accra with the largest mall, several supermarkets and shops, top-notch sporting venues, and a number of clubs and pubs for those who prefer the nightlife. Some of the most exquisite houses you will see in a residential area may be seen in East Legon. There are many lovely privately owned homes in this neighbourhood that add to its charm in addition to all the real estate developments that are being built there. For families wishing to live in East Legon and have their children attend school, there are a large number of private and public schools. Top international Schools like Al Rayan International School and Safari School provide world-class education to your kids.

5. Ridge

Ridge is a few minute's drive from the main business district of Accra and from Ministries and the best hotels. Less developed than the other areas, Ridge has the feel of a quiet residential area with few-storey buildings and upmarket gated townhome communities. There are a number of significant embassies in this neighbourhood, including those of Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. There are very few amenities in Ridge but it is relatively close to Osu and Cantonments which are within 10-15 minutes drive.

6. Osu

This coastal district is a dynamic blend of tradition and modernity, with a mix of colonial-era architecture and contemporary developments. Visitors in Osu can explore its bustling streets filled with colourful markets, street vendors, and local artisans, making it a fantastic place to experience Ghana's vibrant street life and culture. The district also boasts a range of restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues, making it a popular spot for nightlife in Accra. Osu is a vibrant and captivating reflection of Ghana's historical past and its ongoing cultural evolution. It has few houses because it was never intended to be a residential community. There are hotels and serviced apartments that are ideal for middle-class residents and foreign tourists who wish to take advantage of the city's nightlife. For fitness enthusiasts, there are top fitness centres like Pippas Health Centre located inside Ringway estates, not far from the main Oxford Street. Oxford Street is referred to as the "street that never sleeps" because there are bars, cafes, restaurants, and pubs open all night that serve Mexican, Italian, Chinese, and Indian food. Osu is one of the greatest areas in Ghana for tourists visiting the country for the first time.
